Failure (1) The attachment of black 1 looks like a tesuji, but is not quite enough to kill. White is able to form two eyes with his response of 2–6.
Failure (2) Following, Black might consider cutting White with 2 and on. However, this is still not an optimal result because half of the white group can live with the moves up to 6.
Solution Black should start with the hane of 1. White is able to take hold of this stone with 2 and 4, but after black 5 the whole white group is unable to form two eyes and therefore ends up captured.
